Our History
The Monzani School of Dancing, est. 1947The Monzani School of Dancing was founded in 1947 by Madame Andrée Monzani, a highly trained and respected teacher who studied at Sadler’s Wells and with Madame Vacani in London. She later gained her teaching qualification with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and taught widely across the country. Among her students were the royal princesses, whom she taught at Buckingham Palace before the war.
She began her own classes locally in Amersham, teaching ballet, tap and ballroom, and quickly built a strong reputation across Buckinghamshire through her work in both community venues and schools.
Her daughter, Carol Henry, was trained from an early age under her mother’s guidance and later at Madame Vacani’s school in Knightsbridge, where she qualified as a teacher in 1963. After several years of teaching in London, Carol returned to the area and gradually established her own classes before taking over the school in the 1990s when Madame Monzani retired.
Since then, Carol has continued to grow the school while maintaining its traditional values. Over generations, many families have returned with their children and grandchildren, creating a warm, welcoming and community-focused dance school with a long-standing local legacy.
